The Burleson Area Fiber Artists would like to introduce our brand new website with a forum to go with it! Thanks to my husband, Cory...we have our own domain name, too! No funky url address...yippee!

Just try www.fibertherapy.org on for size and see how you like it! We'll keep the Vox Fiber Therapy group up and running for a period of time just until everyone gets comfortable with the new forum.

Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions for the new site!

Thanks,

Micol Day

Exhaustion and Imagination

I try not to bore with 'kid posts' too much...but...

My four year old daughter was playing at a neighbor friend's house when the Mom called and said, "I guess your daughter's sleepy." I sighed because that usually means that they're fighting because she's gotten cranky. Then she told me to bring my camera...so I really wondered what was the matter. She had just fallen totally asleep at 6:00 p.m. while watching TV with her friend. We laughed and took photos and she didn't wake up until I picked her up to go home.

Sometimes her imagination is just so inspiring to me.

I was working on the computer in our bedroom when she brought in a mini Igloo cooler lunch box and laid it on it's side on top of the T.V.
She said that it was a T.V. and grabbed a make-believe remote control, pretended to turn it on and began laughing and pointing. She said, "Oh, that coconut!...Hahahhahahaha". She told me that it was 'The Coconut Channel'.

We went in the kitchen and made lunch and baked some cookies to eat together.

Then I went back into my room to check my email. She yells out from the living room, "Are you still watching that Coconut Channel?". It's funny to me that she still had it on her mind even several hours later. What a hoot!

Speaking of Snowflakes...

I guess I forgot all about these last year. I made these back in 2005. I should get one of those silicone mats to make things a whole lot easier this year. I think I'll take more time on the piping of the icing, as well! Argh!

Make-a-Flake

Every year I get my snowflake cravings taken care of even though I live in Texas. (It's November 18th and we're wearing shorts this year! Don't worry...a cold front will be here in time for Thanksgiving Day!)

I go to the 'Look and Feel' site to Make-a-Flake! It's super fun for all ages and you can sometimes see your flake floating out the virtual window shortly after you've created it. You can email them, print them...click on them as they fall outside the 'window' to see the detail...it's so lovely! They do have some other fun games on their site as well. A bit commercial, but hey...that's they're job!

Try it today!

And...the flake in the photo above is one of MY paper flakes from a couple of years ago.

A love for Wubb

I watch a lot of children's programming with my daughter and Wow Wow Wubbzy is one of my favorites for it's cute graphics, educational content and mostly...the music videos! Bob Boyle and Brad Mossman have really come up with some great songs for the show and has generously directed me to the Wubcast site so that I can share with my readers my FAVORITE music video "MADE BY YOU", which ANY crafter will just LOVE! (Wubbcast #27) I had to try to convert it from a .m4v to an .avi file to upload it, which made it a bit sketchy, but you can watch Wow Wow Wubbzy's podcast if you have a Quicktime viewer. Bob and Brad's site has some really fun Wubbzy better quality Wubbzy music videos with their other songs. Check them out, too!

Made By You
Lyrics: Bob Boyle / Music: b. Mossman

The best kinda gifts are made by hand
Just use some tape or a rubber band
No need for a diamond covered pony
You can just make it out of macaroni

Draw a card or write a letter
Pick a flower or knit a sweater
Paint a picture red or yellow
Make up a song and play it on cello

Make it yourself
It comes from the heart
Make it yourself
It’s a work of art
It doesn’t really matter what you do
Because it’s a gift and it’s from you

If you want to do something really sweet
And give someone a special treat
Make some art or bake a cake
It’s from you, there’s no mistake

You can paint a face on a rock
Make a puppet from a sock
Tie a ribbon on an old shoe
No need to buy something new

It’s made by you
Not from the shelf
It’s made by you
Not by an elf
It’s made by you… and you made it yourself

Make it yourself
It comes from the heart
Make it yourself
It’s a work of art
It doesn’t really matter what you do
Because it’s a gift and it’s from you

Yeah, it’s a gift and it’s from you

Enjoy!

Halloween 2007

I still had the costume I borrowed for a reenactment that I participated in a few weeks ago. It was a Civil War reenactment, but I was just one of the spinners who demonstrated the process of spinning and weaving in that era for about 500 school children who toured the camp. I told them that I'd participate...as long as I could be a 'Yankee' spinner! Ha-ha.

Holiday Treats II

Easter Eggs in October
Originally uploaded by RecycleMicol

Yes, this photo was taken in October. She has been watching a Max & Ruby DVD and there are two Easter episodes on it, which made her little heart desire to paint Easter eggs. I thought, "Why not?".

Holiday Treats

Boo Cake
Originally uploaded by RecycleMicol

Well, this is a pretty sorry Halloween cake, but I really just made it because my daughter was begging to help me bake and she would not quit bugging me to eat it, or I would have made a better spider and web.

It's not large...just a two layer six inch diameter cake made from left-over batter after baking her Cinderella cake. I baked the small cake and froze it, so all I had to do was pull it out of the freezer and frost it. My daughter helped me make some caramel-fudge frosting from a random web recipe where you microwave Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk and Semi-sweet chocolate squares. (And a pinch of salt with vanilla extract added at the last.) It's really yummy!

Sticker Bandit

Something on the wall caught my eye this morning when I was alone in the house. It was an upside-down sticker that my four year old had stuck on my bedroom wall. It tickled me. Then I thought about how it won't be long at all before there won't be anymore stickers stuck to walls. No more play food strewn around the house, either. And the amount of crumbs under her chair after a meal will diminish over time as well. I won't mind that so much, but the little things that mean that we are blessed with a little girl in the house will be missed as they fade away.

Until perhaps...Grandkids!

TAGGED

I've been tagged by Jana. I’ve been tagged before and never responded because they're usually so LONG and time consuming, but I'll do this one because it's so short, just THIS ONE TIME.

Here are the rules:

1. Link to your tagger and post these rules.
2. Share 7 facts about yourself: some random, some weird.
3. Tag 3 people at the end of your post and list their names (linking to them).
4. Let them know they’ve been tagged by leaving a comment at their blogs.

FACTS
1. If I drink or eat anything with caffeine in it after lunchtime I'll be up all night.
2. I sleep with the thermostat on 69 degrees Fahrenheit.
3. I love pre-1980s movies and music. (You have to be more specific when you use the term 'oldies' nowadays!)
4. I'm paranoid, suspicious and cynical...probably from growing up on detective shows! Hee-hee. I still LOVE them!
5. I long to travel the world with my husband.
6. I'd be perfectly happy locked up in a Hobby Lobby for six years straight, as long as they brought me food and water.
7. I think my daughter is my greatest accomplishment.

A New Day...A New Blog!

Yes...I succumbed. I have been blogging on Vox, but they have yet to arrange for the general public to comment without being forced to sign up for Vox. Still love them, but now I must share the love with the rest of the world and not be so 'exclusive'! (And my friend Beth from Spindelicious convinced me that it was a good thing!)

Now you see my Blogger page and you ask, "What?! No bazillions of links to free projects and tutorials? Am I on the right blog?"

Well, my friends, there are just too many free patterns and tutorial sites to list and so many of my favorite sites already have them listed, so click on one of these links and have fun!

craftster.org
ravelry.com (If you're 'in' yet!)
knittingpatterncentral.com
crochetpatterncentral.com
knittinghelp.com
joyofhandspinning.com
knittingfool.com (Wonderful illustrated stitch dictionary!)
stickamera.se/gratismonster.php (Frequently updated Free Patterns with fewer broken links. She's working on an English version...but I can find what I need by the English titles within the folders.)

Don't forget to stop to eat, drink, and do some crafting every now and then!

If you add me to your blog roll, I'd love to know. Please drop me a line.
